Spatial Data Services - Quality Control


As the Government's technical focal point for GIS in The Bahamas, it is the remit of the BNGIS Centre to develop a comprehensive framework that provides for improvements in coordination and use of geospatial data. Geospatial data refers to data/information about places or geography. As such The Bahamas Spatial Data Infrastructure (BSDI) System and Programme has been developed as a national strategy for the effective and economical use and management of geospatial assets in the digital environment for the benefit of all government agencies and the general public.


Mandatory for all data custodians who publish spatial data to The Bahamas Spatial Data Infrastructure (BSDI) Library.

1.BSDI Library data custodian alerts the Centre that spatial data is to be published in the BSDI Library.
2.Data Custodian submits a completed Spatial Data Quality Control Checklist to the Centre.
3.The BNGIS Centre User obtains the Spatial Data Error Detection Form.
4.BSDI Library User completes and returns Form to the BNGIS Centre.
5.If The GIS Data Custodian is publishing data for the first time to The BSDI LIBRARY database he should have the subject data reviewed by at least one GIS peer.
6.Data Custodian is required to complete, sign and return a Spatial Data Quality Control Compliance Form.
7.BNGIS Centre accepts the spatial data and publishes it to the BSDI Library.
8.BNGIS Centre alerts all BSDI Users of newly published data.
