Learner's Permit

Description:

This service is provided for persons learning to drive. Permit holders when driving any vehicle which he/she has not qualified by test to drive, must carry the prescribed "L" plates at the front and back of the vehicle. Permit holders should always be accompanied by a supervisor except when under going the driving test or when driving a solo motor-cycle or vehicle, other than a motor car, not constructed or adapted to carry more than one person. The supervisor must hold a current licence, other than a provisional licence to drive the class of vehicle being driven by the provisional licence holder and must have passed the driving test or held licence to drive not less than two years.

Prerequisite:

Passport
National Insurance Card Completed Application Form
Non-Bahamians should present Passport, Permission to Reside issued by The Bahamas Immigration Department, via Work Permit, Residency, Spousal Permit or Permanent Resident.

Instructions:

1.Applicant must be a minimum of 17 years of age Applicant must present their Passport and National Insurance Card to the Road Traffic Department Applicant must complete an application for a Learner's Permit/Provisional Licence
2.Applicant must present all relevant documents to the Clerk at the Clarence Bain Building The Clerk will check documents and upon meeting the requirements, applicant will be issued with a receipt Receipt should be presented to the Cashier along with a fee of $10.00
3.The cashier will issue a receipt of payment to the applicant Receipt should be presented to the Clerk for processing of documents Clerk will issue the applicant with a Provisional Licence.
