Aquaculture Permit

This permit is required for persons who wish to engage in the culture of aquatic organisms including fish farming.

Commercial Fishing Licence

Commercial fishing is defined as fishing for any fishery resource for the purpose of subsequent sale or benefit whether it is done on a full-time or part-time basis. Current fisheries legislation stipulates that only Bahamian owned crafts can legally fish commercially within Bahamian waters. Any vessel that is 20 feet or larger that is used for commercial fishing must be licenced.

Compressor Permit

This Permit allows Bahamian Citizens to use compressors to harvest spiny lobster or crawfish.

Customs Duty Exemptions Fish Farming Sector

Permits are issued to Businesses, Citizens and Non-Citizens to facilitate the duty free importation of equipment and breeding/seed stock to be used within the fish farming sector.

Customs Duty Exemptions for the Bonefishing Sector

Permits are issued to facilitate the duty free importation of vessels and fishing gear to be used within the bone fishing sector.

Duty Exemptions Commercial Fishing Sector

Permits are issued to facilitate the duty free importation of vessels and fishing gear to be used within the commercial fishing sector by businesses or citizens.

Duty Free Application Commercial Fishing

Permits are issued to facilitate the duty free importation of vessels and fishing gear to be used within the commercial fishing sector by businesses or citizens.

Food Testing

Food Testing is a service provided by the Department of Marine Resources which can be accessed by seafood exporters and local food producers and processors. Food testing ensures that exported seafood meets the specified standards of the receiving country and that food products produced locally satisfy the required public health requirements. Food testing also provides important nutritional data.

Licence to Export Seafood

This licence authorizes the persons operating processing plants as well as factory vessels to export seafood from The Bahamas. Refer to The Food (Seafood Processing and Inspection Regulations, 2002)

Licence to Operate a Captive Marine Mammal

A Licence to Operate a Captive Marine Mammal Facility certifies that the operators of a Captive Marine Mammal Facility has been deemed adequate to hold live specimens of marine mammals in The Bahamas.

Licence to Operate a Captive Marine Mammal

A Licence to Operate a Captive Marine Mammal Facility certifies that the operators of a Captive Marine Mammal Facility has been deemed adequate to hold live specimens of marine mammals in The Bahamas.

Marine Mammal Export Licence

A Marine Mammal Export Permit is required to allow the export of any species of marine mammal from The Bahamas.

Marine Mammal Import Licence

A Marine Mammal Import Permit is required to allow the import of any marine mammal species into The Bahamas. Citizens or Local companies authorized to hold marine mammals will be interested in obtaining this type of permit.

Marine Mammal Research Permit

A Marine Mammal Research Permit is required for properly qualified persons to engage in scientific research activities within The Bahamas which is directed towards any species of marine mammals. Persons who would be interested in this type of Permit include the following:
  • Local foreign tertiary institutes.
  • Local and foreign companies authorized to hold marine mammals.
  • Individual researchers (local and foreign).

  • Permit To Transport A Marine Mammal

    This Permit allows transportation of a Marine Mammal.

    Processing Plant Licence

    This licence authorizes the processing of seafood on a land based processing facility. Refer to The Food (Seafood Processing and Inspection Regulations, 2002)

    Scientific Research (Conducting)


    Seafood Buying Station Licence

    Persons wishing to buy and store seafood product can do so with a seafood buying station licence.

    Shark Permit

    This permit allows the holder to fish for, possess or export any shark or shark parts for educational, scientific or research purposes.

    Sport Fishing Permit

    A Sport Fishing Permit is a licence granted to authorize foreign owned vessels to be engaged in sport fishing exercises while in Bahamian waters. Current regulations state that both Customs and Immigration formalities must be completed before the licence can be issued. Permits can be obtained from the Bahamian Customs Officer at the time of entry or from the Department of Marine Resources after entry.

    Sport Fishing Tournament Licence

    A Sport Fishing Tournament Licence is granted to authorize the hosting of a sport fishing event or tournament within the waters of The Bahamas.

    Trapping Permit

    A Trapping Permit enables businesses or citizens who wish to use crawfish traps (lobster traps) to harvest spiny lobster or crawfish.

    Traps - Compressor & Crawfish


    Vendor Permit

    This Permit enables Bahamian citizens to sell marine resources at designated retailing sites.
